PRESIDENT
KAYLA SALONEN
After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Morningside College, she attended Dakota State University and graduated with her Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care in 2015. Since obtaining her licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in 2015, she has worked for Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, a clinical instructor for the South Dakota State Respiratory Care Program, and now currently works at Madison Regional Health. Throughout her 10 years at Sanford, she was oriented to all critical care areas including neonatal, pediatric, adult, the emergency room and AirMed's flight team. In 2020, she obtained her Neonatal-Pediatric Specialist licensure. She completed her Master’s in Business Administration in May of 2024. In her free time, she enjoys staying active at the farm, on the softball field, the lake and the gym.

ASHLEY HERRON
My name is Ashley Herron and I’m excited to continue with the SDSRC! I currently work in the RT Department at Monument Health in Rapid City. I have been with Monument Health for over 20 years. On days off form work I enjoy taking spending time with my family, being outdoors with our dogs, gardening and camping.
I hope to continue the growth of the SDSRC and look forward to meeting everyone this year at the annual business meeting and conference being held this year in Rapid City!

PAIGE HANSEN
Paige has been a Respiratory Therapist for 7 years here in Rapid City, SD. She is currently the Respiratory Care Manager at the Rehabilitation and Critical Care Hospital of the Black Hills. She earned her associate’s degree in respiratory care from Dakota State University in 2018 and subsequently a bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University in 2025. Paige also currently holds her adult critical care specialist credential. She has a wonderful husband and is a mom to a very out-going and adventurous little boy. In her free time she likes to read, journal, and scrapbook.

ANGIE HAUGEN
Angie Haugen, RCP, RRT, is a respiratory care leader with more than 35 years of experience advancing patient care, education, and professional practice. She currently serves as the system director for Monument Health Respiratory Care, where she has dedicated her career to improving quality outcomes and strengthening the role of respiratory therapists in multidisciplinary care.
In addition to her leadership roles, Angie has been deeply committed to volunteer service and professional advocacy. She has served multiple terms on the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners’ Respiratory Care Advisory Committee and the South Dakota State University Respiratory Care Program Advisory Committee. Angie has been an active member and leader within the South Dakota Society for Respiratory Care and the American Association for Respiratory Care, including service on both state and national committees helping to advance the profession across South Dakota and beyond.

MARISSA TROSEN
Marissa is the Program Director for South Dakota State University’s Respiratory Care program. She graduated from Dakota State University with her associate degree in Respiratory Care in 2013 followed by her bachelor’s degree in 2014. In 2021, Marissa earned her Master of Public Health degree from South Dakota State University, and in 2025, she completed the Doctor of Medical Science in Healthcare Leadership degree from Northeastern University. Marissa has over a decade of work experience in a rural critical access hospital where she directly cared for patients in all continuums of care. She also has experience in healthcare leadership where she was responsible for quality improvement, laboratory, radiology, therapy services, and respiratory care. In addition to her board position with the SDSRC, Marissa also serves on the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners. In her spare time, Marissa enjoys spending time with family and traveling, and she enjoys all things volleyball.

CASSIE RENLI - Membership Committee Chair
Cassie is a clinical and lab instructor for South Dakota State University’s Respiratory Care Program and holds a 50% clinical appointment at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health in Sioux Falls. She earned her associate’s degree in respiratory care from Dakota State University in 2009 and subsequently a bachelor’s degree in 2020 before joining SDSU as a clinical instructor in 2023. With over a decade at Avera McKennan, Cassie has played a key role as a lead therapist, working across all critical care units—including adult, pediatric, and neonatal ICUs, as well as the ER. She also takes her expertise to the skies as a member of the Avera CareFlight team. In Cassie’s spare time, she’s keeping up with her husband and their three high-energy kids - because let’s be honest, parenting is its own kind of critical care!
